Making Cute Ice Cream Party Favors

The perfect take-home treat for a birthday party or end-of-summer BBQ

I found adorable ceramic ice cream cones at the dollar spot at Target. (Who doesn’t love those dollar bins!?) And I immediately thought they would make the perfect party favors for an end-of-summer party! Whether you’re hosting the neighborhood kids for a last get-together before schools starts or are having friends and family over for your child’s birthday party, these cones are a cute and inexpensive way to jazz up the normal take-home treat bags.

I know it’s hard to come up with new ideas for kids’ party favors. Candy is always a favorite among tiny humans, but you want to do more than give them a handful of sugar as they walk out the door. That’s why these ice cream cone favors are great! They’re a fun way to hand out the ever-popular candy favors, without costing you too much time or money.

After getting the cones from Target, I bought pink plastic bags at Party City (which run about $3.50 for 25 bags) and filled them up with candy. My sweet of choice was Skittles, but, of course, you could use whatever you want for your little visitors.

To make the treat bag look like a scoop of ice cream, I filled it about 1/4 full and secured it with a twist tie.

Then I folded the top of the bag in half, and held both parts together when I placed it in the top of the cone.

Finally, I fluffed the top part of the bag into a nice, round ball, so it would look like a hefty scoop of delicious strawberry ice cream. And there you go! A fun and different way to display the kids’ take-home favors at your next party.

You can give the kids the whole ice cream cone to take home (after all, each cone is only $1.00) or you can send the kiddos home with just the bag of treats and keep the cones to use again. You know the candy is the main attraction for the kids, and you could reuse those cones to hold straws, silverware or even flowers at another event. They’re a really cute addition to any outdoor party!

BONUS: The pink blackboard pictured is also from the dollar spot at Target. I made the sign with colored vinyl using my Cricut, but you can always use colored chalk or chalkboard paint.
